At the age of 16, Amish children have an opportunity to live free of the strict Amish code of conduct (Rumspringa) before deciding if they want to come back and be baptized into the Amish church. The majority of the youths return, but some do not.
Four out of the original six of the members of The Amish Outlaws were born and raised in Lancaster, PA and had a strict Amish upbringing. However, once they experienced a bit of modern living they didn’t go back.
In a chance meeting in 2002 at the “Rock & Roll Hootenanny” in Pocono Vacation Park, the soon to be band met. Having all left the Amish life behind, they found a common bount and also a love for music.
Having missed 16 year of American culture and a catching up on a whole genre of music, it didn’t take them long to figure out the wanted to start a band. The Amish Outlaws has combined their love of the modern world with their traditional upbringing.
As the group discovers more and more music and culture, you’ll only be guessing what they will play. The Amish Outlaws constantly surprise their audiences with songs from Johnny Cash to Jay Z, Lady Gaga to Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, Pitbull to Elvis Presley, Luke Bryan to Dropkick Murphys, and even theme songs from TV shows. They’ll tell yarns about each other's upbringing and adventures since Rumpspringa.
Come out to the Grandstand Thursday night, August 2nd, at 7:30 P.M. to party, sing and dance along with the Amish Outlaws!
